Profile
I'm a journalist with 15 years of expertise covering the life sciences industry, particularly the integration of genomic information in drug development and healthcare. I've covered breaking stories of national importance and produced in-depth, investigative features. In the past year, I've helped conceive, launch, and grow a news site focused on ways genomics is advancing and disrupting cancer care for an oncologist audience.
GenomeWeb, New York - 2006 to present
May 2019-Present - Managing Editor, Precision Oncology News
I spearheaded the launch a news site dedicated to covering how genomics is changing and challenging cancer care. I played a leading role in developing the editorial scope of the publication, conceived new projects and story-telling methods, and built an editorial team. I currently manage a dedicated staff of reporters who cover the research advances, access challenges, and policy issues impacting the field of precision oncology. I assign, shape, and edit their stories. I also contribute long-form features on trends and controversies in the space.
2014-2019 - Senior Editor – I independently conceived and wrote in-depth features on the application of genomic technologies in healthcare, particularly on the impact of these advances on patients, physicians, and the healthcare system. For example, I covered the legal challenge against gene patents, including the 2013 Supreme Court decision in AMP v Myriad Genetics, and subsequently, have followed the long-term impact of the court's decision on innovation, genetic test prices, patients' access to testing, and physicians' ability to keep up with rapidly advancing science.
October 2006-2014 - Editor – I produced a newsletter on the treatments and genomic tests used to individualize healthcare for patients. The weekly newsletter contained three multi-sourced features and smaller news items on the R&D, marketing, regulation, reimbursement, and legislation affecting the field of personalized/genomic medicine. In the process, I developed key sources in industry, academia, and government.
The Pink Sheet, Reed Elsevier, Washington DC - 2005-2006
Reporter – I wrote daily breaking stories and weekly analytical features on market trends, regulation, and biotech R&D advances.
